In the Kervansaray Hotel, which was engulfed in flames in Uludağ, national skier Berkin Usta and his father Yahya Usta, who is the President of the Turkish Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association, lost their lives, while mother Fikriye Usta was transferred first to Çekirge State Hospital and then to Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital, where she was admitted to the advanced intensive care unit in a state of unconsciousness.
THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE FIREPLACE
The hotel, which has 153 rooms and a capacity of 356 beds, was built with 8 floors above ground, and according to initial investigations, the fire started from a neglected fireplace, with no electrical contact found as the source of the flames. It was reported that 3 fire trucks that reached the hotel location from the station in the Uludağ Hotels Region 3 minutes after the fire broke out began extinguishing efforts, and with the arrival of reinforcement teams, the fire was completely brought under control within 45 minutes, and cooling efforts began.
Additionally, it was learned that during the fire, Yahya Usta, who was operating the "Eagle's Nest" café located about 200 meters above the hotel, along with his son national skier Berkin Usta, were on the 5th floor of the hotel. Upon noticing the fire from outside, Yahya Usta reportedly called the security forces on his cell phone, stating that he was looking for the fire escape but could not find it.
