The CHP leader Özgür Özel was attacked with punches while leaving the AKM after attending the memorial ceremony for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away yesterday. AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik condemned the attack, stating, "We condemn the attack. The assailant will be held accountable before the law."
A memorial ceremony was held at the Atatürk Cultural Center for the Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who lost his 18-day battle for life in the hospital where he was treated due to heart disease. The ceremony was attended by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and MHP Istanbul Deputy Celal Adan, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, DEM Party Van Deputy Pervin Buldan, DEM Party member Ahmet Türk, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Chairman Nuri Aslan, numerous deputies from various parties, some artists, and citizens.
PHYSICAL ATTACK ON ÖZEL AFTER THE CEREMONY
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked by a person with a fist while leaving the AKM after the ceremony, where peace messages were conveyed. The moments were captured on camera second by second, and the assailant was quickly apprehended by police teams, and an investigation was launched regarding the incident.
