The European Parliament's Turkey Rapporteur Nacho Sanchez Amor described the call for disarmament by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan as a historic step, stating that this development could be an important starting point for the peaceful resolution of the Kurdish issue in Turkey.
The DEM Party delegation met with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan for the third time on Imralı Island. The third meeting at the Imralı F-Type High Security Closed Prison included Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Pervin Buldan, and Ahmet Türk, as well as DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, DEM Party Member of Parliament Cengiz Çiçek, and Asrın Law Office lawyer Faik Özgür Erol. The delegation, which returned to Istanbul, conveyed Öcalan's call for disarmament at a hotel in Taksim.
"PKK MUST DISBAND"
In his call, Öcalan stated, "I am making a call for disarmament and I take historical responsibility for this call. Just as every contemporary society and party that has not been forcibly ended will voluntarily do, gather your congress for integration with the state and society, and make a decision; all groups must disarm and the PKK must disband."
FIRST RESPONSE FROM EUROPE
Following Öcalan's call, the first response also came from Europe. Nacho Sanchez Amor, the European Parliament's Turkey Rapporteur, stated in a social media post that they welcomed the call, describing it as "a historic step."
"THE BEST STARTING POINT FOR A PEACEFUL SOLUTION TO THE KURDISH ISSUE"
In his post, Amor stated: "Today, Abdullah Öcalan's call for disarmament and dissolution to the PKK is a historic step that is welcomed with great satisfaction. It is the best starting point for a potential political and inclusive process that will peacefully resolve the Kurdish issue in Turkey based on dialogue and consensus."
