In the context of a project conducted by the Düzce Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Governor Selçuk Aslan, who participated in the Geographical Indication Düzce Chestnut Pumpkin Harvest Festival, stated that production is carried out on an area of 4,000 decares and that the city is the second largest pumpkin producer in Turkey. Aslan announced that they expect a harvest of over 10,000 tons this year and that support for farmers will continue.

According to information obtained from the Düzce Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, the 'Geographical Indication Düzce Chestnut Pumpkin Harvest Festival' was organized within the framework of the 2025 Agricultural Land Utilization Activation Project (TAKE) supported by the Ministry.



The event, held in the village of İçmeler in the Gölyaka district, was attended by Düzce Governor Selçuk Aslan, Düzce Deputy Governor Ömer Sağlam, Gölyaka District Governor Mehmet Bircan, Düzce Provincial General Assembly President Fazlı Koç, Düzce Special Administration Secretary General Nuri Çelik, Düzce Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Esra Uzun, and farmers.



Chestnut Pumpkin Harvest Has Started in Düzce: Over 10 Thousand Tons Expected


Turkey's second largest producer



Governor Selçuk Aslan entered the field with the producers, wishing for a fruitful season. Stating that they are harvesting one of Düzce's geographically indicated flavors, Aslan used the following expressions regarding production and yield expectations:



"Our chestnut pumpkin production is ongoing in an area of 4 thousand decares. Within this production scale, we are positioned as the second largest pumpkin producer in Turkey. Our expectation for this year is to exceed 10 thousand tons. We know that many restaurants or eateries in Turkey use the pumpkin produced in Düzce."



Support for farmers will continue



Wishing producers a fruitful season, Governor Aslan emphasized that the supports will continue, stating, "Our support for farmers will continue through both the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Provincial Special Administration. We are trying to be present in every area of agricultural production. We are trying to support our farmers in every aspect," he said.



At the harvest festival, producers expressed their satisfaction with the increasing demand for the geographically indicated Düzce chestnut pumpkin in both the domestic market and the gastronomy sector. Provincial Directorate officials stated that technical support and field studies will continue throughout the season.
