The rain falling in the Gaza Strip has caused flooding in the tents where Palestinians, whose homes were destroyed in Israel's attacks over the past two years, are staying. Palestinians struggling to survive in the tents are trying to hold on to life under difficult conditions.
Thousands of Palestinians struggling for survival in Gaza are now facing a new disaster in the tent camps hit by heavy rains. The downpour that came overnight uprooted tents that were already struggling to stand in difficult conditions, swept away belongings, and left families on the streets once again. The people of Gaza, trying to survive under the shadow of war, are now trying to cope with the ruthless face of nature.
HEAVY TOLL
Due to Israel's two-year genocide, nearly 90% of the homes in Gaza have either been completely destroyed or damaged.
According to United Nations (UN) data, more than 282,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged in Gaza due to Israeli attacks.
As a result, a large portion of the approximately 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza are struggling to survive in makeshift tents.
STRUGGLE FOR SURVIVAL
Palestinians, who are fighting against massacres, hunger, and forced migration during Israel's two-year genocide, are trying to hold on to life in the makeshift tents they are staying in.
With the weather getting colder and the rains starting, living conditions for Palestinians in Gaza have become even more difficult.
Palestinians living in makeshift tents faced tough moments due to the rain that started this morning. Many tents where Palestinians are staying were flooded due to the rain affecting Gaza. Several belongings of Palestinians, who have been forcibly displaced multiple times due to attacks and have no proper belongings left, also got wet. Many Palestinian children struggling to find clothes were seen barefoot on camera.
APPEAL TO THE ISLAMIC WORLD
A Palestinian father showing his tent that was flooded after the rain stated that they had to wake up in the early morning due to the water filling the inside.
The Palestinian father said, "This (the flooding of the tent) woke us from our sleep. We were sleeping here in the morning. We have spent the night with this water."
Pointing out their situation and appealing to the Islamic world, the father said: "Look at this pillow, the child was sleeping on it. Why don’t you look at us with eyes of compassion and mercy? Would you accept your children waking up in such a place?
If your children woke up like this… Where should we go, to whom should we turn? I was sleeping here, and the water woke me up while I was sleeping. Look at this child, why are we like this? Why, oh Arabs, oh Muslims?"
It is stated that the living conditions of Palestinians in Gaza, who have been devastated by Israeli attacks and forced to stay in makeshift tents, will become even more difficult with the winter months.
