The last photo of Sinem Somun, who was murdered by her husband Ali Eren Somun during their divorce proceedings, was taken just two hours before the brutal act while she was having dinner at a restaurant. In a message she sent to her grandmother, Somun wrote, "My divorce petition has reached Ali. If my death is to come at his hands, what can I do?"
On July 31, around 10:30 PM, a chilling incident occurred in the Adacık neighborhood of Beşikdüzü district in Trabzon. Ali Eren Somun (30), who had a restraining order against him and worked as a minibus driver in the district, went to the house of his 27-year-old wife, Sinem Somun, who was in the process of divorce and training to be a ship captain. Ali Eren Somun shot his wife with a gun after arguing and struggling with her at home.
HE MURDERED HIS WIFE, CAUGHT WHILE CAMPING
Sinem Somun, who was shot in the leg and back, lost her life. While trying to escape the scene by jumping from the balcony of the first-floor apartment, Ali Eren Somun fired again with the gun, injuring the on-duty guard E.E. in the groin. He was caught by police teams in Sinop, where he fled on a motorcycle, in a tent he set up in a forested area. Ali Eren Somun, who was found to have cut his hair, beard, and eyebrows to avoid recognition, was arrested by the court on charges of "Intentional murder" and "Qualified intentional injury" after the completion of his detention interrogation. Sinem Somun, who was preparing to start her captaincy on the ship where she was interning, was buried in tears in Eynesil district of Giresun.
THE LAST PHOTO TAKEN BEFORE THE MURDER EMERGED
It was revealed that Sinem Somun, whose grave was adorned with flowers, sent a message to her grandmother Gülnaz Topaloğlu saying, "My divorce petition reached Ali. If my death is going to be at his hands, what can I do?" while smiling in the last photo taken with her friends at a restaurant on the beach two hours before the murder.
Her death left behind wedding footage and social media posts that mourned Sinem, alongside her family and close friends. The images obtained showed the couple being accompanied by families and guests with traditional dances and horon.
HER GRANDMOTHER RECALLED THE LAST CONVERSATION WITH HER GRANDDAUGHTER
Gülnaz Topaloğlu recounted her last phone conversation with her granddaughter Sinem Somun, saying, "I called my granddaughter around 9 PM on the day she was murdered. Before the incident that night, she sent me a photo while having dinner with a friend. We talked on the phone. She said to me, 'I was afraid Ali Eren would come in and get me from behind. I came to the restaurant to eat. My divorce petition reached his hands. If my death is in his hands, what can I do? If he comes from Adacık neighborhood, death will come. Sleep well tonight, I will go and sleep well too.' I told her, 'If your petition has reached him, he will kill you tonight. Did I raise you for Ali Eren to kill you? Be careful, go home with your friends,'” she expressed.
"I FELT A TIGHTNESS IN MY CHEST, I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A HEART ATTACK"
Gülnaz Topaloğlu continued her words: "I felt a tightness in my chest. I thought I was having a heart attack. A friend called me and said she couldn't reach Sinem. I called too, but I couldn't reach her. It turned out that the reason for my discomfort was that our girl had been murdered. That pain struck me. Hours before the incident that night, she had sent me a photo while having dinner with a friend. This became my child's last photo. I want the one who shot her to receive the heaviest punishment. I love my granddaughter very much. I cry every day because I can't live a single day without her. If Ali Eren receives a heavy sentence, only then will my heart find peace. I don't want her blood to be left on the ground."
"HE KILLED MY DAUGHTER, BROUGHT HER TO THE DOOR IN A COFFIN"
Derya Topaloğlu, the mother of Sinem Somun, stated, "My daughter had been threatened for 1.5 years. One evening, she came to me and said, 'I am not obliged to take care of your daughter, you have spoiled her too much.' Sinem heard everything and cried in the room. My daughter went to the ship, and there too, they threatened her. My daughter changed her last name to Topaloğlu on social media. She was working on a ship between Mersin and Cyprus. Ali Eren went all the way to Mersin to find her. Wherever my daughter went, he followed her. He grabbed her by the collar and pressed the gun to her forehead. He instilled fear of death in my daughter. She tried to calm Ali. 'I want to divorce for the sake of goodness. I am trying to prevent things from going wrong. If I come to the village, I will disturb my grandmother and grandfather. Don't tell them anything,' she said. He killed my daughter and brought her to the door in a coffin. He went and set up a tent. My Sinem will never come back. My daughter wouldn't even crush an ant," she said.
