Fraudsters in Ankara, who identified themselves as police and prosecutors over the phone, swindled 5.5 million Turkish lira with the lie, "Your name is involved in a terrorism investigation." The suspect, V.E.M., who received the gold, was caught in Aksaray while trying to escape by taxi.

Phone scammers' classic trap, used for years, has come into play again; the result was a multimillion-dollar fraud. A scammer who deceived a woman in Ankara with the lie, "Your name is involved in a terrorism investigation," escaped with 5.5 million lira worth of gold and cash. The suspect was caught in a taxi while trying to flee at the entrance of Aksaray.

A woman in Ankara became the target of a cleverly set trap over the phone. Scammers posing as police and prosecutors led their victim into a multimillion-dollar fraud with the lie, "Your name is involved in a terrorism investigation." The Syrian national V.E.M., who took the gold and cash, was caught red-handed in Aksaray while fleeing in a taxi.

BIG FRAUD

The incident occurred yesterday in Ankara. Members of the criminal organization introduced themselves as police and prosecutors to the woman they called, claiming her name was involved in a terrorism investigation. The scammers, who panicked the woman, stated that they were supposedly conducting a "secret operation" and that the gold and cash in her home needed to be handed over.

The panicked woman prepared 99 Ata gold coins, 18 bracelets, and 17,400 TL under the scammers' guidance.

REALIZED SHE WAS SCAMMED LATE

Later, V.E.M. went to the address, took the gold and cash worth a total of 5.5 million lira, and quickly fled the area. After a while, the woman realized she had been scammed and reported the situation to the police.

TRIED TO FLEE BY TAXI

Ankara police determined that the suspect V.E.M. had fled towards Aksaray by taxi. The Aksaray Provincial Police Department teams, informed of the situation, stopped the taxi at the entrance of the city.

During the search of the vehicle, all the gold and cash taken from the woman were seized intact. V.E.M. was taken into custody.

GOLD RETURNED TO OWNER, SUSPECT TO PRISON

The seized gold and cash were returned to their owner, while V.E.M., who was taken into custody, was arrested by the court he was brought to and sent to prison.
