The trial of actor Atakan Yılmaz, who is accused of encouraging people by advertising illegal gambling, has begun, with a request for a prison sentence of up to 3 years. The hearing, held at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance, was attended by the detained defendant Atakan Yılmaz and his lawyers.

During the hearing, defendant Yılmaz stated, "There is no reference to gambling in the words I used. I was shocked when I saw the advertisement on YouTube. I had no idea it was illegal gambling. I had no intention of committing a crime. I request my acquittal." After the defenses were taken, the prosecutor, whose opinion was sought during the hearing, requested that the detention of defendant Yılmaz continue.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the suspect Atakan Yılmaz made statements related to illegal gambling and betting in a video he played, and that his actions harmed society by normalizing illegal gambling and betting in the eyes of the public. The indictment requested that suspect Atakan Yılmaz be sentenced to imprisonment of 1 to 3 years for the crime of 'encouraging individuals to advertise and otherwise engage in fixed-odds or joint betting or gambling based on sports competitions.'
