The incident of the pharmacy attack that occurred in the Erdemli district of Mersin turned out to be different from what was initially reported. Security camera footage recorded a day before the incident shows the pharmacy technician pushing the 76-year-old father of the attacker out, during which the elderly man fell to the ground.
On October 16, in the Erdemli district of Mersin, 76-year-old Zeynel Abidin Toprak went to a pharmacy on Hastane Street to get medication with his old prescription. When the pharmacy technician Arif Fidan did not give him the medication, a dispute arose between them. At the end of the argument, Fidan expelled Zeynel Abidin Toprak from the pharmacy.
SON ATTACKED THE PHARMACIST WITH A CLUB
The day after the incident, Zeynel Abidin Toprak's son, İsmail Toprak, came to the pharmacy and attacked Fidan with a club. Neighbors who heard the commotion entered the workplace and intervened, rescuing Fidan. Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Fidan, who was injured on the head, was taken to Erdemli State Hospital by ambulance.
SON ARRESTED, PHARMACIST'S CHAMBER PROTESTED
After his treatment, Arif Fidan was discharged, while the fleeing İsmail Toprak was caught by the police shortly after. After his procedures at the police station, Toprak was sent to the courthouse where he was arrested by the court. Officials from the Mersin Pharmacists' Chamber also made a press statement in front of the pharmacy, condemning the attack.
THE TRUTH OF THE INCIDENT EMERGED WITH CAMERA FOOTAGE
Meanwhile, different footage from before the incident has emerged. The footage shows the pharmacy technician pushing Zeynel Abidin Toprak out of the workplace a day before the incident, causing him to fall to the ground, and then closing the door.
"EITHER OUR CHILD SHOULD BE RELEASED OR THE PHARMACIST SHOULD BE ARRESTED"
Describing the events, Zeynel Abidin Toprak stated that the pharmacy technician had initially assaulted him, but he did not defend his son's actions. Zeynel Abidin Toprak, who stated that they had filed a complaint against Fidan, asked for help, saying, "Either our child should be released or the pharmacist should be arrested."
