Unemployment in Turkey rose in June. According to TÜİK, the number of unemployed increased by 52,000, reaching 3 million 47 thousand. The unemployment rate rose to 8.6%, while the rate among young people was recorded at 16.2%. Female unemployment surpassed that of males. Employment decreased to 32 million 452 thousand people. The rate of underutilized labor was 32.9%.

Accordingly, the number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and over in Turkey increased by 52,000 compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 47 thousand people. The unemployment rate also rose by 0.2 percentage points to 8.6 percent.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE INCREASED

The unemployment rate was estimated to be 7.1 percent for men and 11.4 percent for women. In the mentioned month, the unemployment rate among the youth population aged 15-24 increased by 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous month, reaching 16.2 percent. The unemployment rate in this age group was calculated to be 12.3 percent for men and 23.7 percent for women.

EMPLOYMENT RATE DECREASED

According to seasonally adjusted data for June, the number of employed individuals decreased by 18,000 compared to the previous month, falling to 32 million 452 thousand. With this decline, the employment rate also decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 48.9 percent. The employment rate for men was recorded at 66.2 percent, while for women it was 31.9 percent. The labor force increased by 33,000 compared to the previous month, reaching 35 million 498 thousand people in June. However, the labor force participation rate remained stable at 53.5 percent. This rate was determined to be 71.3 percent for men and 36 percent for women.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT ROSE TO 16.2

The average actual working hours of employed individuals decreased by 1.1 hours in June, dropping to 41.5 hours. The combined rate of underemployment and unemployment rose to 32.9 percent, while the number of individuals not included in the labor force reached 30 million 874 thousand. The unemployment rate among the youth population rose to 16.2.
