The trip of the Böcek family, a group of four from Germany visiting Istanbul, turned into a nightmare. Kadir Muhammet, 3, and Masal, 6, lost their lives after being poisoned by the kumpir and mussels they ate, prompting action from the Beşiktaş Municipality. The establishment was indefinitely sealed by municipal authorities, while the District Agricultural Directorate initiated an investigation into the samples taken from the business.
The Böcek family, who came from Germany to Turkey for a holiday, was poisoned after eating food in Ortaköy. Two siblings, aged 3 and 6, from the family who were taken to the hospital lost their lives.
STATEMENT FROM BEŞIKTAŞ MUNICIPALITY
While the investigation regarding the incident is ongoing, a written statement was released by Beşiktaş Municipality. The statement included the following remarks: "The news that the Böcek family, who came from Germany to Istanbul, was hospitalized with suspected food poisoning and that 2 children lost their lives has deeply saddened us all."
SEALED INDEFINITELY
Relevant units from the Beşiktaş District Agriculture Directorate and the Istanbul Police Department have notified our Ortaköy Zabıta Directorate regarding the incident. The establishment believed to be responsible for the incident has been sealed indefinitely by our municipality's units to protect public health and safety.
"NECESSARY INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN INITIATED"
Additionally, samples have been taken from the establishment believed to be responsible for the incident by the District Agriculture Directorate, and necessary investigations have been initiated to evaluate hygiene conditions and clarify the incident. Our municipality will continue to closely monitor the ongoing judicial and administrative processes and will implement all necessary measures to protect public health without fail."
