Large numbers of people attended a series of celebrations and commemoration marking the 40th anniversary of the 1974 Turkish Military intervention, which is celebrated as Peace and Freedom Day in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC).
Commemoration began in the early hours of Sunday at Yavuz Çıkarma Beach. Thousands of people, including Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay participated in dawn post as a memory of the freedom day. A group of people from religious high school read Quran and prayed for the people who were martyred during the intervention.
