Russia has thrown out a Swedish diplomat in retaliation for the expulsion of a Russian representative from Stockholm, Swedish officials said on Monday.
In a statement, the Swedish Foreign Ministry confirmed one of its high-ranking diplomats had been dismissed from the embassy in Moscow.
Spokesman Johan Tegel told Swedish broadcaster SVT that a Russian had been expelled for engaging in "acts improper to his post and status" in violation of the Vienna Convention.
The ministry gave no further detail on the individuals involved or when they were expelled.
Russian military activity around Sweden has raised tension between the two countries recently and Sweden has been highly critical of Russian involvement in Ukraine. - Ankara
