Tokyo Stocks Close 1.40 Pct Higher

Tokyo stocks rose 1.40 percent Tuesday bolstered by overnight gains in U.S. and European markets and China's latest round of monetary easing policy as well as the yen's weakening.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 274.60 points, from Monday at 19,909.09. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 26.20 points, or 1.66 percent, to 1,608.88.

All 33 industry groups advanced except for shipping, with insurance, rubber and utilities among the biggest gainers.
The turnover was 2,577.7 billion yen (about 21.59 billion U.S. dollars). (Ciha n/Xinhua)
