U.S. President Donald Trump has moved up the date for tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
MOVED UP TARIFFS
Trump announced that he has decided to implement the tariffs on March 4 instead of the previously announced April 2, stating that this step is part of efforts to stop the flow of drugs entering the U.S.
"WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS PLAGUE TO CONTINUE HARMING THE U.S."
Trump emphasized that there is an unacceptable level of drug entry from Mexico and Canada, particularly highlighting deaths caused by fentanyl produced and supplied from China. Trump stated, "Last year, more than 100,000 people lost their lives due to the distribution of these dangerous and highly addictive poisons. Millions of people have died over the last 20 years. The families of the victims have been devastated and, in many cases, nearly wiped out. We cannot allow this plague to continue harming the U.S."
A 10% TARIFF WILL BE APPLIED TO CHINA
Trump stated that the tariffs to be implemented on March 4 will continue until drug trafficking stops or is significantly restricted, and announced that a 10% additional tariff will also be imposed on China on the same date. Trump expressed that the previously announced reciprocal tariff implementation on April 2 will proceed as planned.
