Turkey: Hdp Files Legal Complaints Against President, Pm

31.07.2015 18:48

Pro Kurdish party says president and prime minister influenced judiciary with their remarks.

Pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) filed criminal complaints against Turkey's president and prime minister over "their remarks influencing judicial independence", said the party on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the HDP, the party filed complaints against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to the Ankara Prosecutor's Office on behalf of HDP co-chairman Selahattin Demirtas, and to Istanbul prosecutor's office on behalf of the party's co-chairwoman Figen Yuksekdag.

The HDP statement said, "Erdogan and Davutoglu have openly given instructions to the judiciary with their statements in recent days," adding that their remarks also targeted HDP leadership and lawmakers.

The complaints come as both HDP co-chairs, Yuksekdag and Demirtas, face investigations over "terrorist propaganda" and "inciting violence", respectively. - Ankara
