Turkey Privatises 2 Thermal Power Plants For $521 Mln.

Orhaneli and Tuncbilek thermal power plants located in western central provinces of Kutahya and Bursa have been privatised for $521 million.

Turkish construction and energy company, Celikler Holding won the tender for the Orhaneli and Tuncbilek thermal power plants located in western central provinces of Kutahya and Bursa on Wednesday.



A total of four companies entered the bidding process. Two companies, Konya-Seker and Celikler Holding qualified for the last bidding round. Finally, Celikler Holding offered the highest bid with $521 million and secured the tender. 



Orhaneli Thermal Power Plant has one unit with 210 megawatts of production capacity and Tuncbilek has a capacity of 365 megawatts. 



Approximately two years ago, the Seyitomer thermal plant in the Kutahya province in western Turkey, with 600 megawatts production capacity was privatized for $2.2 billion.



The Turkish government will assess the value of the bid and will make a decision to approve it or not in due course.  



There are a total of 22 thermal plants in Turkey.



The country is second after China in terms of rising energy demand and more than 60 percent of power generation is currently operated by private companies.
