24.07.2014 16:05

Economists surveyed by Anadolu Agency expect June's foreign trade deficit to be US$6.9 billion.

Senior economists on Thursday predict Turkey's foreign trade deficit in June to be at $6.9 billion, much lower than June of last year.

Fourteen economists in a trade survey by Anadolu Agency ahead of the official release said June's deficit will fall to US$6.9 billion from US$8.6 billion in June of 2013.

The economists predict a maximum deficit of US$7.55 billion and a minimum of US$6.1 billion.

The median of estimations for the year-end foreign trade deficit, declined from US$86.2 billion in May to US$84.7 billion.

In January, the Central Bank of Turkey introduced drastic interest rate rises and the Banking Authority of Turkey imposed new measures to restrict private consumption and ease the current account deficit.

On July 23, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Ali Babacan, said the effects of the European recovery and the implemented economic measures have been seen quickly, with a 10 to 20 percent increase in exports to countries such as Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.
