Turkey Wants Global 'Equality And Justice': Deputy Pm

24.10.2014 14:18

Numan Kurtulmus says Islamic world still suffering from 'unequal' postwar system.

"We need a new world order based on equality and justice", Turkish deputy prime minister, Numan Kurtulmus stated Friday.

Delivering a wide-ranging speech at third Turk-Arab Youth Congress in Istanbul, Kurtulmus said that the Islamic world still suffered from the "unequal" system built after the First and Second World Wars.

Kurtulmus said the region's borders had been drawn in straight edges. Although today's most-regarded institutions, like the U.N., were established by certain members "to bring peace to world" they had all failed, Kurtulmus added.

Kurtulmus said that the new post-Cold War world order had failed in achieving disarmament and in humanitarian development.

"Today, $1.6 trillion is spent on weapons... One third of the world's population is trying to survive on around $2 a day," Kurtulmus said.

"The condition of Africa today is no different than it was 100 years ago. The resources of Africa and Asia are still being colonized by some strong powers."

A daughter of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is one of the advisors to Turk-Arab Youth Congress, Sumeyye Erdogan, said that Turkey developed power from its people and not from external elements over the last 12 years.

"Let's not forget one thing, we have our responsibility to future and history. We are going to build a bright future for it and peace, brotherhood and solidarity are not far away. With our faith, we will build our future," she said.

The project of the Turk-Arab congress – under the motto 'How to lead the future, centennial review' – aims to create a platform for Turkish and Arab youths and intellectuals. A final declaration, presenting remarks from the participants and a congress report will be prepared after the three-day event.
