Turkish Airlines Resumes Flights To Israel

26.07.2014 18:18

Decision comes hours after Turkey's aviation authority lifted ban on flights to Ben Gurion Airport.

Turkey's flag carrier Turkish Airlines has announced it will resume flights to Israel following the declaration of a 12-hour ceasefire between Palestinian resistance factions and Israel.

Two Turkish Airlines flights were launched on Saturday hours after Turkey's aviation authority SHGM lifted ban on flights to Ben Gurion Airport, the company said.

The SHGM had announced the ban on Tuesday.

A "humanitarian ceasefire" came into effect in Gaza earlier on Saturday. The ceasefire was proposed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon earlier. It is due to last for 12 hours.

The humanitarian lull comes hard on the heels of intensive Israeli shelling of homes and sites in the Gaza Strip.

At least 985 Palestinians have been killed – mostly civilians – and more than 5,900 others injured in Israel's offensive since July 7.
