Turkish Army Destroys 10 Daesh Targets İn Syria

01.10.2016 11:34

Turkey's military said on Saturday it destroyed over 10 Daesh targets in northern Syria with artillery and tank fire.

In a statement, the army said terrorist targets in the Uvaysiyah, Cubban and Tal-Atiyah regions were hit by dozens of rounds from howitzers, rocket launchers and armor.

Almost 1,580 targets have been destroyed by over 6,000 rounds fired by Turkish Firtina howitzers since the beginning of Operation Euphrates Shield in northern Syria, the statement added.

Meanwhile, one Daesh terrorist was "neutralized" and two vehicles were destroyed during two air operations carried out by coalition forces in the Titanah region. Three Free Syrian Army fighters were martyred while seven others injured in Saturday's clashes.

A total of 107 residential areas in 925 square kilometers (357 square miles) of northern Syria has been cleared of terrorists since the beginning of the operation, according to the statement.

Turkey has said Operation Euphrates Shield is aimed at bolstering border security, supporting coalition forces and eliminating the threat posed by terror organizations, especially Daesh.

The operation is in line with the country's right to self-defense borne out of international treaties and a mandate given to Turkey's armed forces by its parliament in 2014, which was extended for another year in September 2015. -
