The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Sunday distributed 80 sewing machines to women in the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH).
The sewing machines were distributed to dozens of women who attended a sewing course organized by IHH, according to Bulent Korkaz, the coordinator of TIKA's Palestine Program.
Korkaz, who arrived in the Gaza Strip earlier on Sunday, expressed hope that the sewing machines would help the women earn a living for their families.
He said this was about the first joint work between his organization and IHH.
Korkaz revealed that his organization would also sponsor the marriage of 4,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in mid-May.
He said TIKA would also offer financial assistance to Gaza civil servants who have not received their salaries for months now.
During his visit to the Gaza Strip, Korkaz made a tour of projects sponsored by TIKA as well as locations where TIKA offers free courses for Palestinians in different fields.
A number of Turkish charities have branches in the Gaza Strip to offer aid to the residents of the territory.
Founded in 1992, Turkey's state-run TIKA agency is mandated to implement Turkey's development cooperation policies overseas.
