Turkish Exports Continue Poor Performance İn March

Highly valued dollar weighs on exports with month seeing a decline of more than 13 percent.

Turkish exports decreased by 13.4 percent in March compared to the same month in 2014 as the high U.S. dollar rate made an impact, the Turkish Exporters' Assembly has said.



Exports totaled $11.2 billion in March 2015 and were at $35.8 billion after the first three months of the year - a decline of 6.8 percent, the assembly said on Wednesday.



The country's total exports for the last 12 months stood at $153.3 billion, unchanged compared to the same period last year. 



Exports to Germany, the EU's largest economy, declined by 18.7 percent in March, while the automobile industry registered $1.72 billion in exports for the month.



Exports to neighboring Iraq fell by 27.9 percent in March, according to the assembly, while exports to the world's largest economy, the U.S., increased by 22 percent.



The largest increase in exports for March was seen in the United Arab Emirates, at 39 percent.



Turkish lira lost more than 10 percent its value against U.S. dolar since January.
