Turkish Parliament Speaker Receives World Children

Speaker of Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Cemil Çiçek welcomed a group of children from around the world, who are visiting Turkey to represent their countries within the scope of International April 23 Children's Festival.

Cemil Çiçek warmly welcomed dozens of children from different nations and different races at his office on Tuesday. Addressing a brief speech to children Çiçek stated that April 23, 1920 is a significant day in the history of Turkish Nation and it was dedicated to the children of the world.

“We are very happy to host you here in our country. This is your holiday as well. Nowadays in many parts of the world, especially in in countries around Turkey children suffer because of wars and violence. Numbers of innocent people and children die due to civilian wars and terrorism. Children in several parts of the world lose their lives because of malnutrition. The world would be a better place If only the huge amounts of money that is being spent for weapons and wars would be spent for education and healthcare of children. World needs peace in the first place. Our National Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatür, who also dedicated this day to children, quoted that peace at home, peace in the world” Çiçek added.

Later on, Speaker Çiçek celebrated children from Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, China, Palestine, Finland and other countries, one by one. Çiçek and children posed for a souvenir photo shot.
