The violation of Turkish airspace by a Russian fighter jet dominated Wednesday papers' front pages.



"Playing with fire" was HURRIYET's front page.



"Following Russian fighter jets' incursion into Turkish airspace … eight Turkish F-16 jets were harassed by an unidentified MiG-29 fighter jet while they were on patrol near the Turkish-Syrian border," HURRIYET reported.



The daily also said Syrian-based missile systems targeted the Turkish jets for four minutes and 15 seconds.



"Dangerous escalation" was MILLIYET's headline while VATAN wrote: "An incident would occur".



Russia began flying combat missions over Syria on Sept. 30 following an escalation in its military support for President Bashar al-Assad's regime.



Following this intervention, Russian fighter jet violated Turkish airspace twice over the weekend, which put ties between Moscow and Ankara under the spotlight.



Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Russia on Tuesday after successive airspace violations, saying, "It is impossible to be patient," according to SABAH.



"If Russia loses a friend like Turkey, it will lose a lot," Erdogan said. The Turkish president made the statement during a joint press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel in Brussels.



Erdogan also warned Russia that any attack on Turkey would mean an attack on NATO, a 66-year-old military alliance that includes countries like the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany.



"Airshield in Latakia [a city situated in western Syria]" was YENI SAFAK's headline, reporting that Russia has created an air shield by posting Krasukha-4 electronic warfare system passable only by Russian jets.



"Only Russian jets will be able to fly in Latakia," YENI SAFAK claimed.



The daily also reported the Turkey decided on an air defense system in its southeastern provinces of Hatay, Kilis and Mardin, which are close to the Syrian border. The decision was approved during a security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.



Some Turkish dailies reported on ongoing election campaigns ahead of Nov. 1 poll.



HABERTURK reported that Davutoglu organized an election meeting in the eastern province of Erzurum.



He called on supporters to make his Justice and Development Party the ruling force again without any coalition partners on the 1 Nov. snap election.



Turkey is heading for an early general election after no party succeeded in creating a ruling coalition after the June 7 poll.



Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Republican People's Party which came second in the June election, appeared before party supporters in Amasya and Corum provinces. - İstanbul
