Turkmenistan Prepares For Election Of Local Government Bodies

Turkmenistan on Sept. 24-Oct. 24 will hold the nomination of candidates for the upcoming elections for the members of provincial, district and city council, the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan said in a statement.The elections will be held on Nov. 23, while the registration will be carried out Oct. 4-Oct. 29.Some 1720 constituencies for elections have been established across the country. Currently, the polling stations are being set up at the constituencies.Turkmenistan introduced a new Electoral Code in May of 2013, which regulates the relations arising from the preparation and conduct of the presidential election, election of deputies of the Majlis, members of the institutions of the local governing - People's Council as well as referenda, and sets the guarantees to ensure the free will of Turkmen citizens.The UN Development Programme (UNDP) provided consultations in the development of a unified Electoral Code.
