Two Huge Cranes Fall On Buildings İn Netherlands

Number of casulaties unknown after bridge lifting cranes toppled.

Two cranes hoisting a bridge into place collapsed onto buildings in the Netherlands on Monday, a local official and media said.



The cranes were positioned on a pontoon on the River Rhine in the central Dutch town of Alphen aan den Rijn on Monday when they toppled over.



Initial reports by the Dutch media said up to 20 people could have been injured in the accident but the town's deputy mayor, Kees van Velzen, told a press conference that the number of casualties was unknown.



Turgut Ozkul, a local baker, told Anadolu Agency that the area was covered with dust following the crash.



The cranes were trying to hoist a section of the Juliana Bridge when they fell.



The NL Times news website reported that a search and rescue team had carried out searches of two buildings and found no victims. Search dogs had found no scent of trapped victims. - Ankara
