Morocco has arrested two Turkish citizens and a Moroccan national for belonging to the Islamic State (IS), the Interior Ministry announced Saturday.

The suspects, who were arrested in the eastern city of Wajda, are accused of using sophisticated technology to make phone calls through local mobile company, the ministry said.

The two Turkish men had lived in a Turkish town near the Syrian borders and were providing logistic support for IS field commanders, sources said.

One of the Turkish nationals had received training on the use of light and heavy weapons in an IS camp outside the Syrian city of Hama, and fought against the Syrian army.

The ministry noted that the suspects would be sent to court once interrogations ends.

On Thursday, Moroccan police dismantled a three-member terrorist cell that had supported the Islamic State (IS) group.

According to the Moroccan government, some 140 terrorist cells have been busted since 2002 in operations that have successfully foiled hundreds of terrorist plans and arrested more than 2,200 individuals. (Cihan/Xinhua)
