Uk: Baby Princess Charlotte Baptized At Historic Church

05.07.2015 23:03

The 9 week old fourth heir to the British throne is christened at a 16th century church in eastern Sandringham city.

The new-born Cambridge Princess Charlotte has been christened at a church in eastern Sandringham city.

The royal christening ceremony held on Sunday at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene for the fourth heir to the British throne was attended by Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Duchess of Cornwall, along with the Middleton family -- the parents and siblings of Duchess of Cambridge Catherine.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby conducted the closed-door baptism of the nine-week-old princess.

Ahead of the service, her parents Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose five godparents for the christening among their cousins and close friends, including a niece of late Princess Diana.

Dressed in a christening robe similar to those of Queen Victoria's children, the two-month-old Princess Charlotte was carried by her mother to the 16th-century church in the same pushchair which Queen Elizabeth II used for her children.

The baptism service also marked the first time the Cambridges made a public appearance as a family of four.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on May 2 at London's St Mary's Hospital where late Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William in 1982.

Her brother, the first child of Duchess Kate Middleton and Prince William who married on April 29, 2011 at London's Westminster Cathedral with a magnificent wedding ceremony, will turn two on July 22. - Ankara
