Ukraine Orders Relaunch Of 'Anti-Terror Operation'

22.04.2014 23:34

Military operations against pro Russian militants have been re started after two deaths including a local politician in Ukraine's east.

Ukraine's acting President Oleksandr Turchynov ordered the country's security forces to relaunch their "anti-terror" operations Tuesday after two people including a local politician were found dead in the country's turbulent east.

Turchynov said in a statement that the two bodies found near the city of Slavyansk bore signs of torture. One was that of Vladimir Rybak, a member of Turchynov's Batkivshchyna party.

"Those crimes are being done with the full support of Russia," Turchynov said.

The developments came as U.S. Vice President Joe Biden was visiting Ukraine and meeting its interim leaders in the capital, Kiev.

Russia, Ukraine, U.S. and the EU had gathered in Geneva and signed an agreement aimed at defusing the tension in Ukraine. The deal called for a refrain from violence and required demonstrators to vacate the public buildings that they had occupied. Disarming militias and paramilitary units in the country was another key point of the deal.

Meanwhile, presidential candidate, Yulia Tymoshenko, arriving in the Donetsk region to try and reach a settlement with protestors was faced with pro-Russian protestors chanting slogans such as "Donetsk belongs to Russia".
