Ukranian Pm Calls For High Turnout İn Sunday's Election

25.10.2014 15:19

More than 36 million citizens are set to vote and choose among 29 political parties in Sunday's early general election.

Ukraine's Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, has called on Ukrainians to vote in the country's early general election on Sunday.

More than 36 million citizens are set to vote and choose among the 29 political parties and 6,627 candidates who have registered to run for the 450 seats up for grabs.

The Prime Minister stressed that the elections will be carried out fairly and those who practice deceit will be severely punished.

Pointing to the latest developments in eastern Ukraine, he stressed that the new government will have to fight for the country's future.

Yatsenyuk added that the new Parliament will have to ensure justice and human dignity -- as well as the country's goal of being integrated into Europe.

Last year's Maidan protests led to Moscow-backed former President Viktor Yanukovych to flee the country after he refused to sign a deal to have closer ties with the EU.

Pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine have been continuing their attacks in the eastern part of the country, despite a cease-fire between Kiev and pro-Russian rebels signed on September 5.
