The UN on Wednesday released “World Population Prospects: The 2015 Revision,” which provides demographic data and indicators to assess population trends at the global, regional and national levels and to calculate many other key indicators commonly used by the UN system.

The report, prepared by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the UN Secretariat, makes use of the national population censuses as well as findings from recent specialized demographic and health surveys that have been carried out around the world.

According to the UN report, the world population reached 7.3 billion as of mid-2015, with 50.4 percent of it male and the remaining 49.6 percent female. The report also estimates that the world population is to increase by more than 1 billion people within the next 15 years, reaching 8.5 billion in 2030, and will increase further to 9.7 billion in 2050 and 11.2 billion by 2100.

Also, the report states that there are 39.9 million females in Turkey and 38.6 million males. It is also estimated that the population of Turkey will reach 87.7 million in 2030 and increase further to 95.8 billion in 2050.

After 2050, the increase in Turkey's population growth is expected to stop, causing the population to drop to 87.9 million in 2100.
