U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will host a foreign ministerial level meeting of international Israeli-Palestinian peace mediators on Sept. 30, the New York-based body said Friday.
The meeting of the group known as the Quartet will be held on the sidelines of the U.N.'s annual conclave of world leaders at the General Assembly, which will begin Sept. 28.
The Quartet consists of the U.S., the U.N., the European Union and Russia.
The U.N. chief has also invited the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as well as the head of the Arab League, to join the meeting.
The Israeli-Palestinian peace process continues to limp along, and direct peace talks remain deadlocked amid Israel's unilateral settlement-building policies in occupied lands, and Palestinians' efforts on international recognition of their statehood.
In May, the Quartet's special envoy, former British PM Tony Blair, resigned from his post. - New York
