An unspoiled historical bath has been found by the Department of Archaeology in Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKU), during the excavations in the ancient city of Kibyra where southern Turkish city of Burdur. It is said that this bath is the first archaeological structure to be found undamaged in the excavations across the country. The finding belongs to late Roman period.
The restoration of the ancient bath will be opened to visit after the restorations completed. Turkish baths have a very important place in the Anatolian Archaeology said the head of MAKU Kibrya excavation Asst. Assoc. Dr. Sukru Ozudogru, adding that in terms of structure and solidity there is no other example of this historical bath.
Ozdogru also said that the bath which has six parts, gives some information about the social life in Roman period. "We are going to finish the protection works of the bath this year. Description boards will also be readyfor the visitors to understand the historical bath." stated Sukru Ozudogru.
The ancient bath has been restored in accordance with the original structure by a team of 8 people. The floor of the bath was made by a special slate stone which was used at that time.
