Update - 1 Dead, 2 İnjured After Crash Outside Nsa Headquarters

One person is dead and two others were wounded Monday, including an NSA police officer, after an unauthorized vehicle attempted to gain access to NSA headquarters at the Fort Meade military base in Maryland.



"The driver failed to obey an NSA police officer's routine instructions for safely exiting the secure campus. The vehicle failed to stop and barriers were deployed," agency spokesman Jonathan Freed said in a statement.



Shots were fired by NSA police after the car sped toward and slammed into an NSA police vehicle, killing one of the men in the car and injuring a second.



One of the individuals died at the scene while the other was taken to a local hospital, Freed said.  



A crashed black SUV and a police vehicle can clearly be seen in aerial footage of the incident broadcast on local media. What appeared to be a body covered by a tarp was visible next to the black SUV.



The FBI is currently leading the investigation into the incident.



It was the second this month. Hong Young, a 35 year-old former state prison officer, was arrested earlier in March on suspicion of being behind a series of five Maryland shootings, including one at Fort Meade that resulted in bullets striking the NSA's headquarters. No one was killed during the shootings. 



In addition to housing the NSA, the base is an active military installation with 11,000 military personnel and 29,000 civilian employees, according to the Army.



It is roughly 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Washington, D.C., and about 15 miles (24 kilometers) from Baltimore, Maryland.
