Five people were injured on Wednesday by a bomb blast near Cairo University west of the Egyptian capital, the Health Ministry has said.
"Five people were injured in the blast," ministry official Mohamed Sultan told Anadolu Agency.
He added, however, that it remained unclear whether the injured were civilians or police.
Senior police officer Mahmoud Farouq had said earlier that a bomb had gone off near Cairo University on Wednesday.
"The blast left a number of policemen injured," Farouq told AA.
There has been no claim of responsibility.
In April, a similar bombing near Cairo University killed a senior police officer and injured five others.
The attack was later claimed by the shadowy AgnadMasr ("Egypt's Soldiers") group, which is said to have links with Al-Qaeda.
