Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and King Philippe of Belgium attended the launch of the Europalia cultural arts festival Tuesday.
One of the most prominent festivals in Europe, Europalia runs from Oct. 6 to the end of January. This year's theme is "Anatolia: Home of Eternity".
Turkey's EU Minister Beril Dedeoglu, Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu and Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders also attended the festival on Tuesday.
"In this period of time, when we need peace, mutual understanding, tolerance and togetherness more than anything, only by way of art and culture can we build communication between civilizations without prejudice and marginalization," Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Yalcin Topcu said.
"Art develops cultural dialogue and builds a strong bond between people. Turkey's rich contribution to the art world and creation of awareness is exciting and an honor to us." - Brüksel
