Five Iranian policemen have been killed after a war time mine exploded on the country's border with Iraq according to Tehran's semi-official Fars news agency.
According to reports on Monday, Brigadier General Jalal Setareh, deputy commander of Iran's Border Guards for Operations, said a police vehicle detonated a mine from the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
"The vehicle was patrolling the Iraq border," Fars news agency "ed Setareh as saying.
During the war between Iran and Iraq, thousands of mines were planted on the 1,458 kilometer-long border.
Casualties have repeatedly occurred on the border due to mine detonations.
