The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, who visited the hazelnut orchards affected by the agricultural frost, stated that 16 different products were affected by the frost in 34 of our provinces, saying, "I would like to announce for the first time here which of these products are affected: pear, quince, almond, walnut, apple, plum, hazelnut, apricot, cherry, lemon, tangerine, nectarine, orange, peach, grape, and pistachio."

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, visited hazelnut orchards affected by agricultural frost in Giresun. Stating that there were varying degrees of impact, especially on fruit varieties referred to as perennial plants, Yumaklı said, "I felt the need to make a statement from here, especially because Giresun has a significant impact with its 13% share in hazelnut production."

"OUR TEAMS WERE ON THE FIELD FROM THE FIRST MOMENT"

Noting that 34 provinces were affected by the agricultural frost event, Minister Yumaklı said, "As I mentioned, Giresun was one of these provinces. Especially fields and orchards above a certain altitude were affected much more. Our teams were on the field from the very first moment. I want to open a parenthesis here. At the end of February, similar damage occurred to products produced in Mersin, Adana, and Hatay. Again, our friends were with our producers from the very first moment there as well. Our friends were on the field to do whatever was necessary in accordance with the meteorological warnings, not only after the event occurred but also before it. Since last Tuesday, our friends have continued their efforts to mitigate the effects of the recent frost event," he stated.

"THEY WILL RECEIVE WHATEVER HAS BEEN SPENT"

Stating that there was significant damage to some fruits, Yumaklı said, "Of course, the things that today's technologies can provide to reduce that impact are unfortunately limited. Therefore, there was a lot of damage to some fruits here. Our President announced it. Assessments are ongoing. After these assessments, those with TARSİM insurance will receive payments for those covered by their insurance policies. For those registered in the Farmer Registration System but without insurance, after the damage assessment works, they will receive compensation based on their damages for whatever expenses were incurred for that field or orchard until the time of the frost event. To simplify, let me express it this way: If you spent 1000 lira on your orchard and your damage is 100%, you will receive that 1000 lira. If your damage is 50%, you will receive 500 lira. Of course, this is a process and has a timeline. The physical conditions must also allow for this damage assessment. In some places, this will be quicker, while in others it may take a bit longer, but we will carry out this process," he said.

WHICH PRODUCTS WERE AFFECTED?

Emphasizing that 16 different products were affected by agricultural frost in our 34 provinces, Minister Yumaklı stated, "Generally, when we make our statements, we refer to fruit varieties. We mentioned that 16 different products were affected in the 34 affected provinces. Since it has come up frequently, I want to announce for the first time here which of these products are: pear, quince, almond, walnut, apple, plum, hazelnut, apricot, cherry, lemon, tangerine, nectarine, orange, peach, grape, and pistachio. I cannot pass without mentioning the importance of TARSİM here. Unfortunately, the insurance rates for products that have a very high economic weight or can be considered as a source of livelihood for a province are low and not at the desired level. From today onwards, I would like to invite all our producers to take out TARSİM insurance on this occasion," he added.
