In the Lüleburgaz district of Kırklareli, the pellets fired from a shotgun at a wedding hit the eye of a 22-year-old woman who was watching the wedding from a window. Facing the risk of losing one of her eyes, the woman said, "I will have surgery, but there is no guarantee that it will be 100% successful since the optic nerve has been damaged. Right now, I have lost one eye. My life is over from now on."
On May 23, Friday, a wedding celebration was held in the Barış neighborhood of Lüleburgaz district in Kırklareli, where a fight broke out between two groups for unknown reasons. During this time, the pellets from a fired shotgun hit Nazar Sepetçi (22), who was watching the wedding from the window. Sepetçi, who was injured in the eye, was taken to Lüleburgaz State Hospital by the ambulance that was called and was treated. She experienced temporary vision loss in her right eye.
"I WAS UNCONSCIOUS, I OPENED MY EYE IN THE HOSPITAL" Nazar Sepetçi, who works in a market in Lüleburgaz, stated that the bride's side of the wedding lived in her apartment and that she was watching the celebration from the window. Sepetçi said, "At that moment, a fight broke out, and I told my mother to go out on the balcony. I also said, 'Let me close the window,' and at that moment, I heard a gunshot and it hit my eye. As soon as it hit my eye, I fell to the ground and I don't remember anything after that. When I left here, I was unconscious; I opened my eye in the hospital. They said one of my eyes couldn't see. I will have surgery, but since the optic nerve is damaged, there is no guarantee it will fully recover. Right now, I have lost one eye," she said.
"MY LIFE IS OVER FROM NOW ON" After leaving the hospital, Sepetçi stated that she gave a statement to the police and filed a complaint against the person who fired the gun. "The person who fired also gave a statement, saying, 'I didn't shoot, I wasn't there.' I saw him myself, my mother also saw him. I was very upset about his release. I am 22 years old, and my 4-year-old son saw me like this. This situation will also affect my ability to work. I am very upset that I might not be able to work. Unfortunately, this happens at every wedding. I never thought I would experience something like this. I don't know how many times I recited the Shahada. I thought, 'I will die,' I never thought I would live. The surgery is a very risky one. Even if I have surgery, there is no guarantee my eye will see. My life is over from now on. I just want that person to be punished. I don't want him to walk around freely," she said.
"MY DAUGHTER COULD HAVE DIED" Nazar Sepetçi's mother, Sibel Yörükçü (47), also stated that she was on the balcony during the wedding and saw the gunfire. Yörükçü said, "My daughter could have died; we experienced a very unfortunate event. The incident happened right in front of me. I thought my daughter was going to die. I didn't even think to make a phone call. Thank goodness our neighbors came to help. I ask those who fired the bullet; if Nazar had died, would they say, 'It was an accident, I didn't know'? We want them to be punished. Because I am grateful to see my daughter in this condition. Maybe she will never see out of one eye, but he needed to be arrested. He was released and then re-arrested and later detained. I am surprised that those who do these things are walking around outside. I will follow this process until the end. I will do whatever it takes. This incident happened to us even though we didn't even go down to the wedding. We have started to fear looking out the window. I will do everything I can to ensure he is punished," she said.
Arrested Recep Gölce FIRST RELEASED, THEN ARRESTED Recep Gölce, who was identified as the one who fired the gun, was released after his statement at the police station. After the family's complaint, Gölce was re-arrested and was detained by the Peace Criminal Court he was brought before.
