Wounded Iraqi Peshmergas Receive Treatment İn Ankara

25.09.2016 11:17

Sixty security personnel of Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), or peshmergas, are being treated in state hospitals in Ankara, Turkey said Sunday.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that the regional government had requested its help with security personnel who were seriously wounded fighting Daesh.

"As part of its relations with the KRG and placing importance on the fight against Daesh, our country agreed to reply positively to this request," said the statement.

"In this context, 60 KRG security personnel who were wounded in the fight against Daesh have been brought to Turkey with their attendants. The treatment of the wounded personnel has begun at state hospitals in Ankara. All treatment and transportation costs of the wounded personnel will be provided by our country."

The statement added that Turkey's military and humanitarian cooperation with international and regional actors for the fight against terrorism will continue.

Iraq has suffered a devastating security vacuum since mid-2014, when Daesh captured the northern city of Mosul and overran large swathes of territory in the northern and western parts of the country. -
