Yemenis Gather In Several Cities In Solidarity With Palestinians In Gaza Strip

27.04.2024 01:27

Demonstrators protest in cities controlled by government, Houthi group.

Yemenis organized vigils and demonstrations Friday to condemn the discovery of mass graves in the Gaza Strip and to show solidarity with Palestinians facing an Israeli onslaught since October.

Hundreds gathered in the government-controlled city of Taiz after Friday prayers in response to calls by activists to support Palestinians in the besieged enclave, according to Anadolu.

The Gaza Civil Defense Agency said Thursday that it uncovered 392 bodies in three mass graves at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Ten of thousands participated in a demonstration in the Houthi-controlled capital of Sanaa to condemn Israeli "crimes" in the Gaza Strip.

Participants waved Palestinian flags and banners condemning "the crimes and massacres of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip."

Israel has waged a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group, Hamas, on Oct. 7 which Tel Aviv said killed less than 1,200 people.

More than 34,356 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, and nearly 77,368 others injured amid mass destruction and severe shortages of necessities.

More than six months into the Israeli war, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins, pushing 85% of the enclave's population into internal displacement amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine, according to the UN.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
