13 Killed İn Houthi Shelling Of Yemen's Aden

At least 13 civilians were killed Monday in artillery shelling by Shiite Houthi militant group of Yemen's southern Aden city.



"Thirteen civilians were killed in Houthi artillery shelling of two districts in Aden," a medical source told The Anadolu Agency.



Several civilians were reportedly injured in clashes between Houthi militants and local vigilantes in northern Aden.



In another development, seven Houthi militants were killed by local vigilante groups loyal to embattled President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, according to vigilante sources.



According to the sources, vigilantes repelled a Houthi attack on an area in northeastern Aden, using rocket-propelled grenades.



A Houthi military vehicle was destroyed in the attack, the source said.



No word is yet available about casualties among the local vigilantes.



Houthis have been the target of unrelenting airstrikes by warplanes affiliated with Saudi-led Arab coalition since Wednesday.



Riyadh says the strikes were in response to appeals by Hadi for military intervention to "save [Yemen's] people from the Houthi militias."



Fractious Yemen has been in turmoil since last September, when Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country as well.



Some Gulf countries accuse Shiite Iran of supporting the Houthi insurgency.
