2 Pakistan Army Troops Killed Along Afghan Border

20.09.2019 16:20

Explosion hits during supervision of border fencing.

Two Pakistani army troops were killed in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Friday, the military said.

The IED planted by suspected militants exploded when the personnel were supervising ongoing fencing of the border in Mohamand district of Pakistan, the army's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

This is the second attack targeting Pakistani troops engaged in fencing work along the border in less than a week.

Pakistan and Afghanistan share 18 border crossings. The most commonly used are northwestern Torkham and southwestern Chaman crossings.

Afghanistan does not recognize the Durand Line -- a 2,600-kilometer (1,600-mile) porous border demarcated by the British Empire in 1893 -- which bifurcates the two countries. -
