2 Soldiers İnjured İn Central Yemen Blast

Two Yemeni soldiers were injured Saturday in a bomb blast in the central Al-Baydaa province, a local official has said.



A roadside bomb went off near an army patrol in the city of al-Baydaa, leaving two soldiers injured, the official told The Anadolu Agency.



There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.



Over the past months, clashes between militants from the Shiite Houthi movement and armed tribesmen have rocked the province of al-Baydaa, leaving hundreds killed or injured.



Last September, the Houthis emerged as a formidable political and military force after taking control of the capital before moving on to establish control over other parts of the country.



The rise of the Houthis has pitted the Shiite group against local Sunni tribes and Al-Qaeda, the latter of which is said to remain active in the country.



Fractious Yemen has remained in a state of turmoil since pro-democracy protests in 2011 forced autocratic President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down one year later.
