2 Soldiers Injured In Militant Attack In Tunisia

Two soldiers were slightly wounded when armed militants attacked an army unit in the west-central Tunisian province of Kasserine, the country's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The army unit was patrolling in Mount Salloum near the town of Kasserine, close to the Algerian border, when terrorists attacked them, according to the statement.

Two soldiers were slightly wounded in the ensuing gun battle, while some terrorists were also injured as they fled the area, it added.

The ministry's spokesman, Mohamed Zekri, did not provide further details but stated that additional details would be released later.

Since 2013, Tunisia has suffered a number of terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of scores of security and military personnel and foreign tourists.

In March 2016, Daesh/ISIS launched an attack on a Tunisian National Guard station in the city of Ben Gardane, close to the Libyan borders, leaving 12 Tunisian security personnel dead, along with 55 militants.
