204 workers who were fired from Iğdır Municipality through SMS held a sit-in protest and press statement in front of the municipal service building. The police intervened in the incidents that occasionally occurred between the protesters and the municipal officials.

204 workers whose employment contracts ended with the SMS sent by DEM Party member Mehmet Nuri Güneş, gathered on Zübeyde Hanım Boulevard today at noon. Speaking here, AK Party Municipal Council Member Kürşat Şimşek said, "We saw that DEM Party candidate Mehmet Nuri Güneş, who won Iğdır Municipality in the March 31 Local Elections, did not keep his promises to the people before the elections, such as transparent management, joint management, respect for labor and workers, equality principle, treating everyone equally, not interfering with the bread of any worker, being the service door of the Municipality, making investments for Iğdır, and similar promises during this 3-month period. Their first action was to constantly change the jobs of the working laborers in order to intimidate them."

Iğdır Mayor Mehmet Nuri Güneş also made a statement on his social media account regarding the dismissal from work. He said, "As our people know, surplus personnel were hired to our Municipality before the March 31, 2024 Local Elections. Since the date we took over the management, instead of approaching wholesale, considering the value we give to labor, the needs of the institution and the budget situation, due to the fact that our institution cannot produce services due to high costs, inability to make salary, tax, and social security payments, the employment contracts of 204 company employees have been terminated as of July 5, 2024, in accordance with Article 49 of the Law No. 5393 on Municipalities, due to the debt situation of our institution."
