In Istanbul, 24 suspects were detained in an operation organized after it was determined that more than 1 million messages were sent through a system identified as being used to send SMS with illegal betting content. In the investigation, it was determined that the suspects who registered GSM lines earned between 0.005 and 0.01 euros per message sent.
Istanbul Police Department Cybercrime Combat Branch Directorate examined the digital materials belonging to suspects arrested in the SMS operation carried out on August 3 as part of work carried out under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. In the examinations, it was determined that an application installed on Android-based phones was used. It was determined that the suspects registered GSM lines belonging to different individuals in the application and sent SMS with illegal betting content through these lines. It was determined that the suspects who registered GSM lines in the application earned between 0.005 and 0.01 euros per message sent, and that more than 1 million SMS with illegal betting content were sent through the system. In this context, an operation was organized on September 16 to capture the suspects. In the operation, 24 suspects were caught and detained. Within the scope of the investigation, bank accounts belonging to the suspects and 13 vehicles and 3 apartments considered to have been obtained from the crime were seized. It was stated that the procedures of the detained suspects are ongoing.
