A four-year-old Syrian refugee named Ahmet Hallo was run over by a tram in the Bağcılar district of İstanbul on Saturday.
The child reportedly lost one of his arms and one of his legs and could not be saved despite a treatment he received at a hospital.
According to the Doğan news agency, the incident took place on the tram line on Abdi İpekçi Street, when the boy and his father, who was holding his other child on his arms, got out of a tram car at a station. Ahmet's leg became stuck in the door of the tram car, and at that moment the tram moved, dragging Ahmet under it for some meters. The tram operator stopped the car after some of the passengers on the tram warned him. The child was taken to the Bağcılar Training and Research Hospital but died despite treatment.
The tram's operator has been detained. The police also carried out an examination of the tram car and the tram line where the accident took place, in addition to acquiring CCTV footage from the tram car.
