A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck southern Peru on Thursday, the National Seismological Center (CSN) of Chile said.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 240 kilometers (149.1 miles), according to the CSN.
According to the US Tsunami Warning Center, there was no tsunami warning in place after the quake.
No damage or casualties have been reported so far.
Earthquakes in Peru are common as the country is located in a seismic zone called the Ring of Fire – an area that extends along the west coast of the American continent. -
